I founded Huro Winery to introduce the UK and Western Europe to the hidden wine gems of Hungary and neighbouring Romania – delicious, hand-crafted, small-batch and natural wines from distinctive grapes. Wines that reflect the diverse microclimates and over 2000 years of winemaking. I work with passionate wine suppliers to preserve traditional winemaking practices and help indigenous grape varieties thrive.

Eniko Balla, Owner and Founder.
I come from a long line of winemakers. My ancestors owned wineries for over 200 years in Bihardioszeg – an area famous for their wine producers, where the very first winemaking school was opened. My father was the last in my family to own a winery.
When a child in Hungary, I developed a passion for local wine while helping my parents and grandparents with the family winery. Their traditions inspired me to bring that same loving, family-centred, quality over quantity approach to my business in the UK, where I am honouring my family’s legacy in a new way.
To draw upon the two thousand year history of Hungarian winemaking, strong relationships with local winemakers, and Eniko’s hands-on expertise to bring you the best wines that the region has to offer. Through sharing our wines, and the stories and traditions behind them, we want to provide UK consumers with a great understanding and appreciation of Hungary, its history, land, people, and the treasures it has to offer.
